What We Believe

The Bible, both old and new testament, is the inspired word of God. 2Timothy 3:16. As such, we recognize as fundamental the following truths taught in Scripture.

The creation of the world in six literal days. Genesis 1:1-2:24. The seventh day as holy and sanctified by God at creation, Genesis 2:1-3, and a perpetual memorial of creation for all time. Exodus 20:8-11; Ezekiel 20:12; Isaiah 66:22,23.

Man became a living soul or living being when the breath or spirit of God was breathed into his body formed from the dust of the ground. Genesis 2:7. At death, the breath or spirit returns to God, the body returns to dust, and in that very day his thoughts perish. Ecclesiastes 12:7; 9:5,6,10; Psalm 146:4.

Until Jesus returns to call the dead in Christ back to life at the resurrection, they sleep the sleep of death. 1Thessalonians 4:16,17; John 5:25; Isaiah 26:19; Daniel 12:2; Psalm 13:3; Job 14:12,21.

We are baptized into Christ. Romans 6:3. Baptism by immersion into a watery grave and coming forth into newness of life is the memorial of our Saviour's death and resurrection accepted by the believer as we confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Romans 6:4; Acts 2:38; 8:16, 37-39; 10:48; 19:5; 22:16; John 3:23.

There is one God who is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the firstbegotten and only begotten of the Father, who came forth from the Father before all things were created. Romans 1:5,6; 1Corinthians 8:6; 2Corinthians 1:3; 11:31; Galatians 1:3; Ephesians 1:3, 17; Colossians 1:3, 15; 2Timothy 1:2; Titus 1:4; 1Peter 1:3; 2John 1:3; Hebrews 1:6; John 1:18; Proverbs 8:22-24; John 8:42; 16:27,28; 17:8,5.

The Son of God is equal with God because God is his Father. John 5:18. He has the same eternal life as the Father because it was given to him. John 5:26; 6:63. Consequently, the Son is in the form of God, equal with God, and is called God by his God, his Father. Philippians 2:6; Hebrews 1:8,9; Matthew 27:46; Psalm 22:1; John 20:17; Revelation 3:12.

God Created all things by Jesus Christ Ephesians 3:9. Christ, the image of the invisible God, made all things because he was before all things. Colossians 1:15,16; 2 Corinthians 4:4; John 1:2; Hebrews 1:2.

God is love and He manifested this love in sending His only begotten Son into the world to be our Saviour, bearing our sins in his body, made to be sin who knew no sin, condemned sin in the likeness of sinful flesh, died for the sins of the world that he might destroy the ruler over death. 1John 4:9,14; 1Peter 2:24; 2Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 2:9,14.

God the Father raised His Son from death and has anointed him to be our High Priest in heaven at the right hand of the Father, interceding as our Advocate (Comforter) with the Father that we might be cleansed of sin through the atonement of his sacrifice. Romans 4:24; 6:4; 8:11; 10:9; Galatians 1:1; Acts 3:15, 26; 4:10; 13:30; Colossians 2:12; 2Corinthains 4:14; Ephesians 1:17,20; 1Thessalonians 1:9,10; Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:25; 8:1,2; 1John 2:1; 1:9

God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts. Galatians 3:6. He and His Son come and make Their abode with us. John 14:23. Christ lives in us. Galatians 2:20; 2 Corinthians 13:5; John 14:20.

The Son of God is soon to return to earth with a reward for every person, every eye will see him in the clouds, every ear will hear his shout and trumpet call. John 14:1-3; Revelation 22:12; 1:7; Matthew 24:30:30; 1Thessalonians 4:16,17.

Until then we are to follow the example of Jesus in giving to those in need, lifting up those who have fallen, feeding the hungry, clothing those who need clothing, visiting those who are isolated and lonely. Matthew 25:34-36; Romans 13:13; 1John 2:6.
